Everyday

  2. Weekly means for one week: weekly pocket money. tree →
  3. A weekly is a newspaper or magazine that comes out once a week. tree →

In the lessons

In maths problems "weekly" tells you the amount for one week, which you multiply by the number of weeks or divide by 7 for one day. In everyday life: weekly shop, weekly spelling test, weekly bin collection. Phrases: weekly test, weekly shop, twice weekly, paid weekly.

Examples

  • We have a weekly spelling test. tree →
  • My weekly pocket money is 5 dollars. tree →

Week + ly. Similar: daily, monthly, yearly. Maths: weekly amount × 52 is about the yearly amount; weekly ÷ 7 is the daily amount. Trap: "biweekly" can mean twice a week or every two weeks, so it is unclear.
