In the lessons

In science wasps are insects (six legs, three body parts); they eat other insects and help control pests, and some help pollinate flowers. Unlike a honeybee, a wasp can sting more than once. In safety lessons: stay calm and move away slowly, don't flap or swat, don't drink from a can left outside, and tell an adult about a nest; if someone is allergic, a sting can be an emergency. Phrases: wasp sting, wasps' nest, a swarm of wasps.

Note

Countable: wasps. Wasps and bees are different: bees are usually furry and rounder; wasps are smooth and shiny with a thin waist. Myth: wasps do not sting for no reason; they sting when they feel threatened. If someone's face or throat swells after a sting, call emergency help.
