In Jewish tradition
It means to rouse from sleep. In Zechariah, the prophet is wakened by an angel like a man out of sleep.
Interpretation. The tradition reads this as showing that prophecy is a clear vision given by God.
Examples
- And the angel that spoke with me returned, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep. (Prophets ZEC.4.1, JPS 1917) tree →
