In the lessons

In science a voice is made by vocal cords in the throat that vibrate when air passes; sound waves carry it to the listener's ears. In school there are «inside voices» (quiet) and «outside voices» (loud). In stories a character's voice (shaking, whispering, booming) tells the reader how they feel. Phrases: lose your voice, raise your voice, lower your voice, in a quiet voice, voice your opinion.

In Jewish tradition

In the Torah, "hearken to the voice" means to listen and obey, not only to hear a sound.

Interpretation. The voice of God is central: God speaks at creation and at Sinai, and a heavenly voice (bat kol) later guides the sages. Jewish tradition reads "listening to the voice" as obeying God's commands.
