unpointed
adjective
In Jewish tradition
Ancient Hebrew was written with only consonants. Later scribes added vowel marks ("points"), so an unpointed word can be read in more than one way.
Interpretation. Hebrew scholars note that unpointed words can have several readings. The same letters can then give different meanings, which is why the commentators study them closely.
