tues

abbreviation (Tues, also Tue, Tu) for the noun Tuesday

«tues» in the English dictionary: everyday — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

Everyday

A short written form of Tuesday, the day after Monday and before Wednesday. tree →

In the lessons

Seen on timetables, calendars, shop signs, diaries and notes, where space is short: «Mon, Tues, Wed». In maths problems about days of the week it stands for Tuesday, the second day of the school week.

Examples

  • Swimming club is on Tues after school. tree →
  • The sign said: Open Mon–Sat, closed Tues. tree →
  • Spelling test Tues, maths test Thurs. tree →
  • My note says «Library books back Tues». tree →
  • Tues and Thurs are PE days. tree →
  • If Mon is the first school day, Tues is the second. tree →

Note

Usually written with a capital T (Tues), because days of the week are capitalised. Some write «Tue». Read it aloud as «Tuesday», never «tooz». In counting days, Tuesday comes one day after Monday; a week later is Tuesday again (7 days).
