In Jewish tradition

In Proverbs, "teaching" often translates the Hebrew word torah, meaning instruction from a parent or a wise person. It is to be kept and obeyed like a command.

Interpretation. The word is the same as Torah. Tradition reads the father's or wisdom's teaching as pointing to God's Torah, which is the guide to life.
