tammuz

noun

«tammuz» in the English dictionary: in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

In Jewish tradition

In Sefer Yetzirah it is the month of the year that goes with the letter Chet and the sign Cancer. In Ezekiel, Tammuz is also the name of a false god, and women weep for him at the Temple gate.

Interpretation. The book links each of twelve simple letters with a month, a zodiac sign and a part of the body. Tammuz is joined with Chet, the sense of sight and the right hand. Tradition reads Ezekiel's vision as one of the idol worship that the prophet scolds in Jerusalem.
