spurned
verb
In Jewish tradition
In Deuteronomy it describes God's turning away in sorrow and anger from Israel's provoking behavior, using human words for God's reaction.
Interpretation. Commentators read it as God withdrawing His closeness after Israel's sins. They stress that this is a way of speaking, and the same song also promises that God will finally forgive.
