In Jewish tradition

In Job sparks fly upward as a picture of how certain it is that people have trouble, and a wicked man's spark goes out.

Interpretation. Job's friends use the spark to show the fate of the wicked. The book as a whole questions this too-simple view.

  • Out of his mouth go burning torches, and sparks of fire leap forth. (Writings JOB.41.11, JPS 1917) tree →
