In the lessons

In geography lessons it tells you about the Sahara Desert: its sand dunes, camels, oases and dust storms; in science it comes up with dust, heat and dry climates; in everyday talk «Saharan heat» means an extremely hot day; phrases: Saharan dust, Saharan Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, Saharan heat.

Note

Usually written with a capital S because it comes from the name Sahara. «Sub-Saharan» means the parts of Africa south of the Sahara. The Sahara is not the biggest desert of all if you count cold deserts: Antarctica is bigger. Do not confuse with «Sahara» (the noun, the desert itself).
