In Jewish tradition

In the Torah to prosper is to succeed in what one does. It often means that God blesses the work, or withholds success. In the Prophets and Writings it is also used for a plant that grows well, and for kings like Hezekiah who succeed, and the psalmist prays "make us now to prosper."

Interpretation. Tradition teaches that success comes through God's blessing and through keeping the covenant. Joseph's success is seen as a sign that God was with him. Hezekiah's success is read as the reward of his faithfulness.
