In Jewish tradition

In the Prophets and Nehemiah it also means spoke or declared aloud, as Baruch pronounced Jeremiah's words, or God pronounced evil on a place, or a prophet pronounced a prophecy.

Interpretation. In Sefer Yetzirah the "double letters" can be said in two ways, hard and soft. The tradition sees these two sounds as showing opposites like strength and weakness. In Jeremiah, what was pronounced was the word of God, written down by Baruch.

Examples

  • They pronounced it partly aspirated and partly unaspirated. [See Dr. Geiger's Lehr-und Lese-buch der Mischnah, p. 22, and Dr. Graetz's Gnosticismus, p. 117.] (Sefer Yetzirah, Kalisch 1877) tree →
