In Jewish tradition
In the Torah it means the crops and fruit of the land. In Isaiah it means to bring forward, as when God tells the idols to produce their case. In the Psalms and Proverbs it again means crops, or the worth that wisdom yields.
Interpretation. The law of the seventh year says the land rests and its produce is shared. God's blessing in the sixth year is promised to give enough for three years. Isaiah's challenge is read as God testing false gods to prove they cannot foretell anything.
