  2. (radio) A playlist is the list of songs a radio station has chosen to play often. tree →

In the lessons

In everyday life, children make playlists for parties, car journeys, exercise or sleep. In computing lessons, a playlist is an example of a list or sequence, where order matters and items can be added, removed or shuffled. In maths, you can work out how long a playlist lasts by adding song lengths. Phrases: «make a playlist», «add to the playlist», «shuffle the playlist».

Examples

  • I made a playlist for our road trip. tree →
  • Add that song to my playlist! tree →
  • The party playlist lasted three hours. tree →
  • Shuffle the playlist so the songs come in a random order. tree →
  • Our teacher has a calm playlist for writing time. tree →
  • My playlist has twelve songs of about three minutes each, so it lasts about 36 minutes. tree →

Note

Countable noun, written as one word. In maths problems, the total time of a playlist = the sum of the song lengths; remember 60 seconds = 1 minute when adding minutes and seconds.
