In Jewish tradition

Joseph orders them to embalm Jacob, following Egyptian custom. Later, Job calls his friends useless physicians, and King Asa is blamed for seeking physicians but not the LORD.

Interpretation. Tradition notes that Jacob was embalmed so that his body could be carried back to the Land of Israel for burial. Asa's story is read as a warning to trust God first, not to avoid doctors.
