In Sefer Yetzirah the "Palace of Holiness" is the center of the seven directions, holding up all things. In the Psalms and Prophets a palace is a king's grand house or a fortified city's great building, and Jerusalem's palaces stand for the city's safety.

Interpretation. Tradition reads the Palace of Holiness as the holy center of the world, from which the six directions around it are sustained. The prayer for peace in Jerusalem's palaces and God made known in them is read as God's protection of the city.
