In Jewish tradition
In the Torah, an oak is a large tree often marking a burial place or a holy meeting spot. The prophets name the oaks of Bashan as tall, strong trees, used to stand for proud, mighty things, and their wood was used for ship oars.
Interpretation. The oak under which Deborah was buried was named Allon-bacuth, "oak of weeping," and tradition sees it as a mark of deep mourning. The prophets' picture of the oaks of Bashan falling is read as God bringing down the proud.
