Countable. Do not confuse with a solution (a mixture where one thing dissolves, like sugar in tea) or a compound (substances joined chemically). A mixture is still a mixture even if you cannot see the parts.

In Jewish tradition

It can mean a blend of things. Here it is a boiling brew, spice mixed in a pot, or the "alien mixture" of foreigners among Israel.

Interpretation. In Nehemiah, the separation of the mixed multitude is read as keeping Israel's identity and law pure. Ezekiel's pot is read as a picture of Jerusalem's judgment.

  • He maketh the deep to boil like a pot; he maketh the sea like a seething mixture. (Writings JOB.41.23, JPS 1917) tree →
  • And it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the alien mixture. (Writings NEH.13.3, JPS 1917) tree →
