In Jewish tradition

It means strong greedy craving, as when the people craved meat in the desert, or the enemy's greed for spoil at the sea. The place Kibroth-hattaavah means "graves of craving". Proverbs also uses it for desire for a woman's beauty, which a man must not follow in his heart.

Interpretation. Tradition reads the craving for meat as a complaint against the manna and a lack of trust in God. The place name teaches that wrong desire can lead to ruin. The Psalms recall it as a sin of the wilderness, and Proverbs teaches self-control.
