In Jewish tradition

A "lodging-place" is an inn or camping place on a journey, where travelers stop for the night. Isaiah uses "took up their lodging" for an army camping at a place, and Jeremiah longs for a lodging-place in the wilderness to escape his people.

Interpretation. The rabbis wonder why God "sought to kill" Moses at the lodging-place. They say it was because he had delayed circumcising his son, and the law of brit milah could not wait. Jeremiah's wish is read as the prophet's deep grief over the sins of his people.
