In Jewish tradition
It means to plead with God or a ruler on behalf of others. In Isaiah, God says that no one will plead for Babylon.
Interpretation. Tradition sees prophets such as Abraham and Moses as people who interceded for others, and so this verse shows how severe Babylon's punishment is.
Examples
- Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen; I will take vengeance, and will let no man intercede. (Prophets ISA.47.3, JPS 1917) tree →
