In Jewish tradition

It is often a translation of the Hebrew "musar" (discipline) or "torah" (teaching). It means guidance from God or from wise people about how to live.

Interpretation. Tradition links this to the Torah, which means "teaching." Proverbs praises instruction as the path of wisdom, and in Isaiah "seal the instruction" refers to preserving the prophet's teaching for his students.
