In Jewish tradition

In Deuteronomy it is God's fierce anger at Israel's sin, along with "anger" and "wrath." In Sefer Yetzirah "Grace and Indignation" is one of the pairs of opposites joined to a Double letter.

Interpretation. Tradition reads the land's exile as the result of breaking the covenant, and the pairs of opposites in Sefer Yetzirah as showing that the world is made from balanced contrasts.
