In the lessons

In science, an inclined plane (a ramp) is a simple machine that makes lifting easier — longer path, smaller force; pupils roll cars down inclines to test friction and speed. In maths, the incline of a line is its slope. In everyday speech, «I'm inclined to…» means «I'd rather…». Phrases: inclined plane, a steep incline, be inclined to, if you're so inclined.

Note

Stress: noun IN-cline, verb in-CLINE. Noun «inclination» = a slope or a liking. In maths, a steeper incline means a bigger gradient: rise ÷ run.

In Jewish tradition

Often used in prayer: asking God to bend His ear to listen, or asking Him to turn one's heart toward His laws.

Interpretation. Tradition reads these as humble requests that God both hear us and shape our inner wishes toward good. Proverbs also asks the child to turn his ear to wisdom.
