hugely

adverb (hugely)

«hugely» in the English dictionary: everyday — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

Everyday

  1. Very much; to a very great degree. tree →
  2. In a very big way, as in «hugely popular». tree →

In the lessons

In everyday talk and news it makes words stronger: hugely popular, hugely important, hugely successful. In stories it shows strong feeling: «She was hugely relieved.» It does not give an exact number.

Examples

  • The new game is hugely popular. tree →
  • I was hugely grateful for your help. tree →
  • Exercise is hugely important for your health. tree →
  • The show was hugely successful. tree →
  • Prices rose hugely last winter. tree →

  • He got good feeding this night, meat and drink without stint, and the king was hugely pleased that he had caught such a herd. tree →

Note

From huge + -ly; drop nothing, just add -ly. Similar: enormously, very, extremely. In a maths problem it means «a lot» but never tells you how much — look for the number.
