In Jewish tradition
In the Torah, harvest is the time of gathering crops. It is a holy time, and the first fruits are brought to God. In the Prophets and Writings it is also a picture: wheat harvest is the dry season, the ant gathers food in harvest, and Hosea says a harvest of judgment is appointed for Judah.
Interpretation. The harvest seasons give the festivals Passover, Shavuot and Sukkot. Shavuot is "the feast of harvest," and the rabbis say the cycle of seedtime and harvest is God's promise to Noah. Proverbs is read as praising the ant for working in season, and Hosea as warning that people will reap what they have sown.
