In Jewish tradition

In the Torah this often means "blessed" or "fortunate." Leah calls herself happy when Asher is born, and Moses says Israel is happy because the LORD saves it.

Interpretation. The name Asher, from this same root, is read as meaning happiness, and the tradition sees Israel's good fortune as coming from God's help, not from its own strength.
