In Jewish tradition

In the curse, being left to feel one's way even in bright noon shows complete helplessness and loss of God's guidance. Job and Isaiah use it for the wicked and for a sinful people, lost in darkness and stumbling even at midday.

Interpretation. The tradition reads it as one of the punishments for ignoring the commandments: people who cannot find their way, whether in daylight or in life. Isaiah's words are read as the people's confession that their sins have left them without light.
