In Jewish tradition

Jacob uses it to say that God gave him his children and wealth as a gift, not through his own deserving. The psalmist asks God to grant him the Torah graciously, which the tradition reads as seeing the Torah as a gift too.

Interpretation. Tradition reads Jacob's words as humble thanks. It teaches that people should copy God's kindness by lending and giving freely.
