In the lessons

Note

«Exempt from» (not «of»). Noun: exemption. Say «ig-ZEMPT». In maths, subtract the exempt ones first, then multiply the rest by the price.

In Jewish tradition

It means free from a duty. King Asa called everyone in Judah, and none was freed from the work of carrying away the stones.

Interpretation. The story is read as showing a king who used all the people to defend his land, though some commentators criticize Asa for relying on Aram and not on God.

Examples

  • Then king Asa made a proclamation unto all Judah; none was exempted; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasa had builded; and king Asa built therewith Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah. (Prophets 1KI.15.22, JPS 1917) tree →
