In Jewish tradition

Eve is the first woman, wife of Adam; the name means "life", for she was the mother of all living. Eve in the last line is the day before, the Sabbath eve.

Interpretation. The Hebrew name Chavah is tied to the word for life. The Sabbath begins at sunset on Friday evening, so its eve is a time of preparation and study.
