equally
adverb
Everyday
- Equally means so that everyone or every part gets the same amount: share equally. tree →
- Equally means just as much, to the same degree: equally good. tree →
In the lessons
sharing or splitting so each gets the same («shared equally among 3» = divide by 3); in everyday life fairness («treat everyone equally»); in comparisons «equally tall», «equally important»
Examples
- Max splits 24 stamps equally into 4 boxes. How many stamps go in each box? tree →
- 15 pears are shared equally among 3 friends. tree →
- Divide 20 beads equally into 5 bags. tree →
- The two cakes are equally tasty. tree →
- Our teacher treats us all equally. tree →
- Mum shared the chores equally between us. tree →
- Both answers are equally right. tree →
- "I will be equally kind and straightforward. tree →
Note
«shared/split equally» = divide the total by the number of shares. Trap: without «equally», a sharing story may give different amounts, and then division alone is not enough.
