In Jewish tradition

It describes putting something into blood. Joseph's brothers dipped his coat in goat's blood, and Aaron's sons brought blood so he could dip his finger and put it on the altar. In Kings, a cloth is dipped in water to kill a king, and Naaman dips seven times in the Jordan and is healed.

Interpretation. The brothers' dipped coat is read as the start of Jacob's long grief and a deception. The altar's blood was part of the sin offering. Naaman's dipping is read as a lesson that healing comes through humble obedience to God's prophet.
