dandle
verb
In Jewish tradition
It means to hold and fondle a child tenderly. Jeremiah uses it for God's love of Ephraim, and Lamentations for children lost in the siege.
Interpretation. Jeremiah's verse is read as God's deep love for Israel as a beloved child, even when it has strayed. In Lamentations the picture shows the awful grief of hunger.
