In Jewish tradition

Dance was a joyful way to praise God, as when Miriam and the women danced with tambourines after crossing the sea.

Interpretation. Miriam is called a prophetess, and the rabbis see the women's joy as a model of praise. Joyful dancing remains part of Jewish festivals, such as Simchat Torah.
