currently

adverb (currently)

«currently» in the English dictionary: everyday — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

Everyday

  1. Currently means now, at this time. tree →
  2. It tells how things are at the moment, which may change later. tree →

In the lessons

maths: gives the amount at the present time, before any change in the problem (the starting amount); age problems; everyday life and news: «currently closed», «currently raining»; science: currently known facts may change with new discoveries

Examples

  • Sam currently has 15 dollars. tree →
  • The tank currently holds 30 liters. tree →
  • Lisa is currently 9 years old. tree →
  • Currently there are 40 birds in the tree. tree →

Note

Marks the starting amount for now; future changes are added or taken away from it. Trap: in age problems, «currently 9» means in 5 years she will be 14. Do not confuse with «currant» (a small dried fruit) or «current» (a flow of water or electricity).
