Usually uncountable (cancer); countable for kinds (many cancers). Myth: cancer is not catching like a cold. Capital C for the star sign and the Tropic of Cancer. Doctors treat it with medicines, operations and radiation; many people recover.

In Jewish tradition

In Sefer Yetzirah it means the zodiac sign Cancer, one of the twelve signs of the stars.

Interpretation. In Sefer Yetzirah the sign Cancer goes with the letter Chet, the month of Tammuz, and the right hand. The twelve simple letters are matched with the twelve signs, the twelve months and the parts of the body.
