In Jewish tradition

Here a bottle is a skin bag for carrying water, not glass. The prophets and Job also use it for a clay jar, and the psalmist asks God to keep his tears in a bottle.

Interpretation. Tradition sees Hagar's empty bottle as a picture of despair, which turned to hope when God opened her eyes to a well. In Psalms, God keeping tears in a bottle shows that He remembers every sorrow, and Job's "bottles of heaven" are the clouds that pour rain.
