In Jewish tradition
In the Torah a book is a scroll, not a bound book, and "God's book" is a record kept by God. Later books also name lost writings such as the book of Jashar, and "Book III" marks a section of Psalms.
Interpretation. Tradition reads the book of life as God's record of people, and the Torah itself is called the Book of the Law. The five books of Moses were written on scrolls. The Psalms are divided into five books, like the five books of Moses, and the book of Jashar is a lost collection of songs and deeds mentioned in Joshua and Samuel.
