In Jewish tradition
In the Torah it often means a dead body, which makes a person unclean. It also means the living body of a person, as in Psalms and Proverbs, and "of his body" means one's own children.
Interpretation. Touching a dead body brings the strongest uncleanness, so priests and Nazirites must avoid it. Tradition sees this as honouring life as holy and keeping death away from the place of worship.
