along

preposition, adverb (along)

«along» in the English dictionary: everyday and in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

Everyday

  1. Along means following the length of something, like walking along a road. tree →
  2. Along means together with someone: «bring a friend along». tree →
  3. Along means forward, onward: «move along». tree →
  4. «All along» means the whole time. tree →

In the lessons

a length or a path; also things placed in a row by a road or a fence; phrases «get along» (be friendly), «come along», «along with», «all along», «sing along»

Examples

  • Trees grow along the road every 5 meters. tree →
  • She walked 3 miles along the river. tree →

Note

«along a length» with «every» gives a spacing problem. Trap: trees along a road with both ends counted are one more than length ÷ spacing. «Get along» means be friends, no number.
